Gold Leaf Studios is a Washington, D.C., based guilding shop, creating custom frames using Renaissance techniques. For this painting, master guilder William Adair chose a modernist arts and crafts frame, imprecisely carved and then hand-painted. The paint strokes extending across the liner and frame create continuity from the painting to the frame, in keeping with the alla prima style.
